The next #1 Selling Bible

15 April 2008

When I was growing up the Scofield Study Bible was the standard that most "serious" students of the Bible used and it was the King James Version. Next came the New King James Version but most stayed with Scofield for the notes. Next it was the Ryrie Study Bible and many went to the New American Standard translation. Then in the 1980's the New International Version was released. Keep in mind that no other translation ever surpassed the KJV until the NIV and they have rotated from #1 to #2 and back again for years. The NIV Study Bible was released and became the best selling study bible, the Life Applicaton Study Bible also became popular with the New Living Translation but the NIV Study Bible was the top product on the market.

Then there was the fear that the publishing arm of the NIV was moving toward a liberal theology with the publishing of the TNIV which changes some of the gender terms to be more readable but hardliners in such denominations as the Southern Baptists were very alarmed. So alarmed that the Southern Baptists used Lifeway Publishing and Broadman & Holman to get a new translation of the Scriptures to ensure the safeguarding of the Scriptures from liberal theology and translations. (I must add here that I do not believe that anyone affiliated with the NIV has any agenda to distort their translations.) Thus the Holman Christian Standard Bible was published. I must admit here that I have pushed for the HCSB and have communicated with the publisher on my positive reviews of this product. I like it. It is as good as the NIV if not better.

However about this same time Crossway began a new project that has proven to be very readable and accurate. Like the HCSB it is safeguarded from liberal influence. I have used this translation since its release, I alternate between the HCSB and the ESV. The ESV has been endorsed by many many well known Bible teachers, college professors and seminaries.

Therefore it has been posed that the ESV will release in October the "ESV Study Bible". This will in my opinion surpass the best selling NIV Study Bible. The NIV Study Bible has been for years the #1 seller in study bibles. The features and the translation of the ESVSB are incredible they are similar in many ways to the NIVSB but surpass the NIVSB, check out the website for yourself and you can see why I am so excited about this product. Now we can see the future, and the future is the ESV Study Bible, it will be the standard text for serious seekers of truth from God's Holy Word.

Hi,

My name is Ben Hurst, and I'm a junior at Washington U.

I run a blog called The Happy Conservative, whose purpose is to document and expose liberal hegemony on campus. Specifically, I'm looking to create awareness about political correctness and intolerance on campus. I was rejected in the student newspaper, and it's time to assert a conservative presence on campus.

I'm looking for contributors across many campuses. I am willing to coordinate and promote the blog, but I'm looking for quality conservative contributions from students across many campuses. Please take a look at the site and offer comments, advice, or let me know if you'd like to become a contributor.

We're changing the world here.

Thanks so much,

Ben

Interesting to read about the ESV, at one time I would rush out and buy every new Bible edition released, then 18 months ago I returned to the KJV and I have never enjoyed my reading and Bible study so Much for many years.

It poses the question for me, do we keep developing new versions of The Bible and in the end do we lose the real impact?

I am glad for all the comments this post has generated.
While some still love the KJV or the AV1611 as some King James Onlyists prefer, I understand the hesitance to embrace yet another translation. However, the ESV is different. The website for the ESV speaks for itself.
Just today a friend of mine told me that he was attending a gathering of local ministers and every one of them have switched to the ESV. This is not a herd mentality, it is that many Believers in Christ have recongnized the need to have one translaiton in the pulpit and the same translation in the pew and yes the same translation in the home. Let's not forget having the same translation in the seminary as well. This can happen and is happening with the ESV. It is not that it is new, it is clear and is as literal as possible.

Obama supporters act as if the polls are a true reflection of what's going to happen on November 4th. When you don't have an actual record to run on ... and all you can do is point out problems, and blame others, as Obama has, you have to rely on gimmicks that have nothing to do with your actual ability to lead ... like accusations of racism ad nauseam ... like early voting ...busing and indoctrinating homeless people on the way to the polls ... photo ops with big crowds ... spending 4 to 1 on advertising ... having the media in the tank ... having Hollywood in the tank, having Acorn in the tank ... and, having 98% of all black voters in the tank. But, all of these things are nothing more than a fabricated perception. They have nothing to do with a person's experience, or ability to lead. They just reveal a candidate who will say, or do anything to get elected. That's why the Obamabots are so worried. That's why Obama is telling his disciples not to get over confident. That's why the Obama campaign tries real hard to make it look like Obama has already won ... just like they did in the run against Hillary in the primaries. I happen to believe there are legions of people who are going to vote for McCain on November 4th ... unlike the 'in your face' Obama supporters, November 4th is when the McCain supporters will express themselves. Keep America safe and strong, elect McCain/Palin on November 4th.

THE PERFECT STORM FOR A DEPRESSION ...
A far left Media ...
A far left President ...
A far left Congress ...
A far left Senate ...
eliminates all the checks and
balances that our democracy is based upon.
A vote for Obama is a vote for voter fraud,
a corrupt media, and the road to Socialism.
God Help Us !!!
